Name: Lucy Schene
School: Kirkwood High School
Talent: Musical Theatre
How long have you been performing and what inspired you to start?
I have been performing since I was a little girl. I was surround by music growing up and was always drawn to musical theatre. I remember singing along to soundtracks of my favorite musicals every day on my way to preschool. My love for musicals such as Joseph and the Amazing Technical Dream Coat, Les Misérables, and Into the Woods sparked my passion for musical theatre.
How are you preparing for finals? Are you doing anything differently from your usual practices?
I am rehearsing daily. I have tried new techniques that I have learned from my vocal coach and suggestions from the judges of the St. Louis Teen Talent Competition. I have learned so much about vocal technique throughout this process, and I am excited to learn even more.
What will performing on the Fox stage mean to you?
I have been attending shows at the Fox since I was 5 years old. When I saw Wicked for the first time I started crying during “Defying Gravity.” I do not know why, but I was moved. This experience changed me and I knew that this is what I wanted to do, to have the opportunity to perform on the very same stage is a dream come true for me.
Is there someone you look up to and draw influence form for your talent?
My parents are my inspiration. They taught me almost everything I know about theatre and they are the reason I am so passionate about it. They introduced theatre into my life and I cannot imagine my life with out it. Moreover, I cant imagine my life without them. They are my best friends and I am so grateful for them.
What has been the highlight of your performance career?
By far the St. Louis Teen Talent Competition has ben the highlight and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to perform “Even Though” in that spectacular space [Fox Theatre].
What do you hope to learn from your experience?
I have already learned so much during this process! I hope to learn from the industry professionals as to how I can make the most of my performance on the Fox stage. I look forward to meeting other finalists and making new friends. I am just so thankful for this experience!
