Name: Lucy Schene
School: Kirkwood High School
Talent: Musical Theatre
How long have you been performing and what inspired you to start?
I have always loved performing! When I was 2 years old I would watch Donny Osmond in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat repeatedly. I would sing along to my favorite musicals such as Les Miserables and Into the Woods on my way to pre-school. I know this is what I had to do. It makes me whole.
How are you preparing for finals? Are you doing anything differently from your usual practices?
I am using the techniques the directors gave me at our one-on-one rehearsal and working my song daily. It was so refreshing and invigorating to receive their ideas and incorporate them into my performance.
What will performing on the Fox stage mean to you?
I had the opportunity to perform on the Fox stage last year and it was magical. The whole team was so supportive and I learned so much. I am honored and thrilled to have another opportunity to perform at the Fox and this time we will have a live audience! I am so excited!
Is there someone you look up to and draw influence from for your talent?
My parents sparked my interest in musical theatre and they are the reason I am so passionate about it. They have always encouraged me to work hard and to be in the moment. They are my best friends and I am so grateful.
What has been the highlight of your performance career?
Performing on the Fox stage in the Teen Talent Competition last year was the highlight of my career and I am elated to be able to perform there again!
What do you hope to learn from your experience?
I love taking in information from the directors and using it to take my performance to a new level. Last year, Tony shared the example of the energy star that he uses each time he performs and I have been using it as a warm-up ever since. I look forward to continuing to grow with new techniques and inspiration from the directors again this year. I am very excited to meet more of the finalists this year, as we will be able to be together more. I am just so thankful to be a part of this amazing group once again!
